Regular Columns Build Reader Loyalty

Regular columns help to foster a strong connection between readers and their magazine. Editorially, columns quickly draw readers into the pages of a magazine and help them engage with feature content that may be more challenging, but also is vital for growing as Catholic disciples. This is why FAITH Catholic has, since its inception, offered syndicated columns as free content for client publications, which are designed to achieve these important goals.

“Our most popular syndicated column is ‘In the Know With Father Joe,’ written by Father Joe Krupp of the Diocese of Lansing,” says Ann Jacob, FAITH Catholic’s editorial director. “He tackles questions about the Church, our faith, and discipleship with a voice that blends his wisdom, his incredibly vast knowledge of history and Church doctrine, and his sense of humor, which is always delightful. His voice feels familiar and warm, yet he speaks directly to real and important issues.” Father Joe’s column has dealt with weighty questions about the priest scandals, abortion, marriage, and the teachings of Pope Francis, but also about everyday issues such as choosing a Catholic education and how to behave like a Christian on social media.

FAITH offers custom publishing clients new content each month, but also maintains an extensive library of evergreen columns that clients can choose to run in their publications or online. Some use the content regularly, and others use the columns as a model to replicate similar features with local writers, so that readers can develop relationships with contributors in their home communities. “Whether they use our content or create similar content of their own, our publishing clients know that regular columns help to foster a strong connection between readers and their magazine. It’s an important part of what we call the FAITH framework,” Jacob says, “and according to our readership surveys, this is a key to establishing high interest in and loyalty to a publication.”
